Art By San Murals and Paintings Interview

By Interviewer at 06/15/08 18:26

Name of your website?

Art By San Murals and Paintings

Your name?

San

Your Location (city, etc)

Naples, Florida

Please give us a short summary of your website?

This website will show several images of past artwork completed from all over North America. Ranging from realistic, impressionistic and modernism styles. I pride myself in being able to paint in the style a client needs and is very accomplished after many years of diversified clients requests.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I was a budding artist in Naples and needed to have the website to be able to show a much broader audience my work without having to be present. The internet has been very good to me.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first website went up in 1996 as the same domain it is today, artbysan.com. I set this up myself with a click and build application from register.com, once I got my first digital camera and learned how to use it for my business.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Simple, art by me, San was the most logical name. Three letters in ART and three letters in SAN. Had a nice ring to it. My name is actually Sandra, but San was a much better nickname and artists name. Besides, San is the name my parents called me in the most affectionate of times.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I think I have my artwork categorized very well. Most artists sites I see just show images. My prospective clients can click on exactly what they are thinking of at the time and look at it without having to move too much around the site trying to find something.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My goal as an artist is to make lasting impressions for all who view my work in the setting of a home or business where they would not expect to see artwork. To paint on a wall or ceiling directly, changes the entire feeling in a room when I am done.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I feel I can command a very good fee for the time and effort I put into any piece. I do not simply just show up with paintbrushes, but have spent many hours beforehand in research for someones request of a specific type of artwork. I find out what they like, whether it be a little shamrock statue they have had out in the garden for years to their own personal plane they fly and having these items placed in their murals to presonalize them.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would hire others to manage my time on appointments and press articles to write about what I do with images and speak about how art heals and can have a positive effect on children.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, I would pick and choose great projects and if needed, I would mass produce some of my images to be able to be printed on canvas and installed in homes and business's.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Not too many. My overhead is not high. I am a very easy going individual and love what I do.

What has been your biggest challenge?

A mural I did for charity in a children's shelter. I had to paint children of different ethnicities reflected in water. I did not want this to look impressionistic, but as realistic as I could for the time allowed for the piece. Then I did not expect the reception I got from the 55 young children staying there at the time and the staff as they clapped and had a little dedication speech when it was completed. It humbled me so.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

business cards/brochures and the word Murals in my heading.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I expected a lot more emails and calls from the website directly.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Since 1996 and will keep it up for as long as I am an artist, which should be a very, very long time.

Do you have any other websites about your art?

Yes, a project very near and dear to my heart. http://www.911san.com This is a sculpture, photograph and painting dedication to 911 in NY and to many other events around the US.

What is your website address?
